The historic Royal Pharmacy has been an icon of the French Quarter for decades. Built in 1831, the property wraps the corner of Royal Street and Ursulines Avenue with excellent visibility to constant foot traffic.
It served as a beloved pharmacy for an impressive 100 years and has been in the current owner's family for the last 90, acquired in the 1930s during the Great Depression. Inside, a marble soda fountain from Italy, added in the 1940s, still anchors the room. The first floor keeps its original tin ceilings and offers a large commercial space with storage and offices behind. One of those rooms served a doctor, whose patients would walk to the front to fill their prescriptions.
The second floor is an expansive residence spanning the entire level, with large living areas, original stucco walls, 13-foot ceilings and two full baths. Four sets of French doors open onto a wraparound balcony. The residence has been partially updated while keeping the integrity of the original, with hardwood floors and custom finishes throughout.
A third floor adds flexible space suited to an office or entertainment room, with access to the roof. The pool table remains. This is the rare chance to own a quintessential piece of French Quarter history.
